Five of a family test positive in East Godavari

Efforts on to identify their primary contacts, says official

As many as five members belong to the same family have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Ramachandrapuram municipality in East Godavari district.

A 21-year-old youth and his father, driver, had returned from Kolkata to East Godavari after transporting eggs on the lorry before May 14. However, the youth has been tested positive on May 14. He is the student of IIIT-R.K. Valley in Kadapa district and has been staying with the family during the lockdown period.

Ramachandrapuram Municipal Commissioner T. Rajagopala Rao told The Hindu; “All the other four persons have been tested positive on Sunday. The family members of the youth are his mother, 41, grandmother, 63, paternal aunt, 48, and cousin sister, 21. The cousin sister is the Ward Volunteer.”

The doctors have advised admitting the grandmother to the State COVID Hospital in Visakhapatnam while the rest of them have been admitted to the GSL Hospital in Rajamahendravaram for further treatment.

“We are identifying the primary contacts of the four members who have contracted the disease from the youth,” said Mr. Rajagopala Rao. However, the youth’s father who drove him to Kolkata has been tested negative.
