Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is struggling to contain the spread of Covid-19 in congested Limbayat zone of the city, one positive case was reported in Un area
on Sunday, making the civic body worried.
Surat municipal commisisoner Banchhanidhi Pani, mayor Dr Jagdish Patel and other civic officials visited the area on Sunday morning and held a meeting with local leaders and citizens and urged them to follow the lockdown norms and maintain social distancing to stall the spread of Covid-19.
"We met people in Un area and advised them to stay home and take all necesary precuations and follow the guidelines to stop becoming the area as another 'Limbayat zone where we have reported highest number of Covid-19 cases in the city,'' Banchhanidhi Pani, said.
"One person who go infected in Un area had not been going out from home since last 20 days but he got infected and patient's family members must have gone out and brought infections to home. So, I request young people not to venture out without reasons and take care of your elders,'' Pani said.
Limbayat zone has become the epicentre of the covid-19 outbreak in the city with 399 cases in this zone alone.
Un area consists of poor people mostly minorities and lives in congested lanes which makes it vulnarable to Covid-19 outbreak.
On Sunday,
35 new Covid-19 cases reported in Surat city which increased the city's tally to 1055. Two persons succumbed to the virus taking the death toll due to Covid-19 to 50.
"On Sunday, 31 Covid-19 patients were discharged. Total 703 patients have been discharged in the city and it helped increase recovery rate to 66.6 percent in the city.'' Pani said.
