GUWAHATI: Two persons received bullet injuries in Nagaon, Assam, on Friday when one of them tried to snatch the pistol of a police officer resulting in accidental firing. The policeman was trying to stop the man from violating lockdown norms when the incident happened.
"A police team was deployed in the Borbazar area where a crowd had gathered flouting the lockdown norms and ignoring social distancing. When a police team tried to stop them, one person, identified as Arzul Ali, attacked the ASI. He tore the officer's uniform, bit his hand and also tried to snatch his service pistol. It looks like an accidental firing from the police officer's pistol in the scuffle. A bullet was fired which hit Ali's leg and also a woman nearby," a police officer said. He added, "Ali is a drug peddler and was earlier arrested several times."
Ali, who was taken to Nagaon Civil Hospital for treatment, later escaped from there, police said.
