LUCKNOW: As many as 147 new cases took UP's Covid-19 tally to 3,902 on Thursday even as 107 persons defeated the novel
coronavirus infection taking the total of recovered persons to 2,072. Health officials said that the number of active cases continued to remain lower than the recovered persons. Of the total cases, 1,742 were active infection.
The state also recorded two new covid deaths. One of the deaths took place in Varanasi, while another death was reported from Jhansi.
District magistrate, Varanasi, Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the deceased was a 58-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment in the super speciality wing of the
Banaras Hindu University. She tested positive to covid and died of acute respiratory infection.
Health officials in Jhansi said that the deceased was a native of neighbouring district. "A 35-year-old man from Mahoba who was suffering from chronic liver failure and was admitted in
Jhansi Medical College on Sunday was later on diagnosed Covid-19 positive. He died here on Thursday," an official statement from Jhansi said.
Two deaths were reported in Aligarh late at night, but were not documented in the official bulletin.
Among new cases, Ghaziabad recorded a jump of 19 cases. It was followed by
Gautam Budha Nagar and Meerut where 16 and 14 cases respectively were reported. Situation in Agra recorded an improvement with just three cases.
Principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad urged all migrant workers to get themselves tested for coronavirus.
He also stated that chief minister
Yogi Adityanath had instructed for scaling up testing facilities further.
"The CM wants us to scale up our capacity to be able to undertake about 10,000 tests a day," he said adding that UP crossed the 1.5 lakh tests mark during the day,
