A crime scene has been declared after police found a body on a major north Queensland road.

Police were called to the Bruce Highway south of Bowen, where the body was located, about 7am on Friday.

Inspector Ian Haughton said the police response was still ongoing.

"It’s occurred this morning and a crime scene has been established. Detectives and QPS forensic officers have commenced an investigation," he said.
