VITCHENNAI: Top companies have offered internships to over 100 ME and M Techs students in Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) after conducting interviews online.
Intel and Qualcomm, who completed their selection process, offered 111 students with internship letters. Intel selected 106 M Tech students for a stipend of Rs 40,000 per month and on conversion after internship they would be paid Rs 18 lakh per annum. Meanwhile, Qualcomm has selected 5 M Tech students with a stipend of Rs 45,000 per month and on conversion, they would receive Rs 29 lakh per annum.
The selected students are likely to join the companies by first week of August for a 10-month internship programme.
"Nearly 25 companies have confirmed their participation in the remote internship process, including Vmware, Mediatek, Infineon, Philips, Novartis, Volvo and Cerner. Other companies who were interested in visiting VIT for on-campus interviews, will make a visit after the lockdown," said V Samuel Rajkumar, director of placement and training, VIT.
Out of 1,500 eligible PG students, 700 took part in the online selection process.
The placement office shared the resumes of eligible and interested students to the companies. The companies in turn conducted online tests that were taken remotely by the students. These tests were monitored by artificial intelligence features.
Students who were shortlisted based on the test results were qualified for an online interview using Skype, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Webex.
Rajkumar added, "We are planning to send invitations to companies in June for UG students’ placements. Campus placement drive will begin in the third week of July." Last year, 700 companies visited VIT for campus placements.
"VIT is planning to convert its interview panels into Digital interview panels with digital interviewing tools, so that the students can attend the selection process remotely after the lock down," he said.
