Prepare for more epidemics
THE EDITOR: Is the Government prepared for future epidemics? I don’t think we can rely fully on the World Health Organization to warm us of future threatening viruses as it took too long to declare covid19 a pandemic.
We need to be prepared to not only address another potential wave of covid19 but also a future epidemic. Are we prepared to supply and store enough protective equipment, establish testing facilities, epidemic-related infrastructure, encourage co-operation between private and public sectors, and so forth?
Prime Minister Rowley must establish a team that will focus on logistics and societal preparedness that will ensure that strategies and initiatives can be carried out efficiently.
Does the current administration view protective equipment as critical infrastructure? Are we putting policies and strategies in place to be better prepared if a new epidemic is unleashed upon us?
