Patiala: Complainant turns accused in car, cash robbery case

PATIALA: A middle-aged man who lodged a complaint with the police alleging robbery of Rs 10 lakh and his car on Wednesday turned out to be an accused in the case after the police caught him red-handed in his own car that he had claimed was robbed off.
The police said that the accused, identified as Dalip Singh of Patiala, wanted to take revenge from his old friend and thus he concocted a story of the robbery. The police said that Dalip lodged a complaint with the Sadar Rajpura police on Wednesday and alleged that two unidentified men had robbed of his car along with his money amounting Rs 10 lakh kept in the car. Besides this, he told the police that his wallet carrying a cheque amounting over Rs 3 lakh, some cash, ATM card, PAN card and other important documents were also kept in the car.
The police said that Dalip further alleged in his complaint that the incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday near SYL on Banur-Patiala road while he was returning home from Chandigarh after getting a payment of Rs 10 lakh related to his construction business. A case in this regard was registered under sections of robbery, common intention, curfew violation of Indian Penal Code and sections of Arms Act and Section 51 of Disaster Management Act.
The police said that sections of IPC including culpable false information with the intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person, false statement in a declaration to be taken as evidence were added against the accused after he was found guilty in the investigation.
Sub-inspector Karanbir Singh Sandhu, station house officer of Sadar Rajpura police station said, “The accused Dalip claimed that a Scorpio jeep followed his car on Wednesday morning and one of the two accused opened fire on him but he escaped. Dalip in his complaint also claimed that he stopped and got out of his car following which robbers asked him for Rs 10 lakh cash. Dalip claimed he ran away from the spot and the accused took away his car and cash. However, he was caught at a police barrier while driving his car. He was going to hide his car somewhere. When questioned, Dalip revealed that he wanted to take revenge with his friend and for this he concocted a story. We have recovered the cash, his wallet and other things from Dalip and added sections 182, 199 and 420 of IPC against him.”
