Noida: The administration is looking at getting
vendors, sanitation workers,
security guards and people in
food distribution chains tested, as they are in touch with
residents. Officials have advised them to get themselves screened for
Covid-19 at private or government facilities.
On Wednesday, the district development RWA (DDRWA) had urged
GNIDA CEO Narendra Bhooshan, who is also the nodal officer for handling Covid-19 response in the district, to address the issue. “These people come in contact with many others on a daily basis and have the potential to be ‘super spreaders’,” said NP Singh, the president, DDRWA.
There about 1,600 vendors registered under Noida and Greater Noida authorities who supply vegetables, fruits, medicines to households.
Among them, 900 are registered with Noida Authority and 700 with the GNIDA.
The district has about 50 containment zones where these vendors deliver supplies at gates of housing societies and sectors. In other places, they go up to doorsteps.
“The idea is to shortlist those who are infected,” said Bhooshan.
While sources from the health department maintained plans are being worked out to facilitate
testing of these vendors, Bhooshan adds that early detection will go a long way in controlling the spread of the disease as well as a better chance at recovery.
