Total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India crossed 78,000 with over 2,500 dead, as the Prime Minister’s CARES fund poured in more money to combat the virus.

India added 3,722 new Covid-19 cases over 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry’s 8:00 a.m. update on May 14. The total number of cases in India stands at 78,003. This includes 26,235 people who’ve recovered and 2,549 deaths. The ministry said that 70 percent of all deaths so far have been because of comorbidity.

Authorities have now reported more than 3,000 fresh cases every day for a week.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced as many as sixteen broad measures under the Prime Minister’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, a post-pandemic financial package, to help restore economic growth. The announcements ranged from support to small businesses and non-bank lenders to employers and employees by lowering their share in statutory provident fund.

Global Update

The coronavirus pandemic could take away four years of growth from the global economy and push 130 million to extreme poverty, a United Nations study showed. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the U.S. economy faces unprecedented risks.

China reported three more cases in regions near North Korea and Russia, after a growing cluster of infections prompted a sealing off of cities in one of the provinces. South Korea reported 29 new cases amid an increase in infections tied to nightclubs in Seoul.

Total cases, globally, have crossed 4.3 million with more than 2,97,000 dead.

Speciall Train Reaches Bengaluru From Delhi, Passengers To Undergo 14-Day Quarantine

Around 1,000 passengers arrived in Bengaluru from Delhi on Thursday on board the first train to Karnataka since limited rail services resumed in the country, officials said.

Soon after arrival at the Bengaluru City Railway Station, the passengers were screened for Covid-19 on the station premises itself, the officials said. The train that left Delhi on Tuesday at 9.30 p.m. was scheduled to arrive at 6.40 am on Thursday but got delayed by 40 minutes.

According to a senior railway officer, the Bengaluru civic agency along with the Karnataka Health Department had set up 10 health check-up counters to screen the passengers.

Total confirmed Covid-19 infection in India rose to 78,003 as of 8 a.m. today, according to data made available by the Health Ministry. Of these, 3722 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.
