Vishrantwadi cops send migrants to MP via buses

Four buses were arranged
Following a report on their plight, police spring to action and arrange food, transport
More than 100 migrants, who were stuck in front of Vishrantwadi police station after they failed to get travel passes to catch a train, have been sent to Madhya Pradesh border on state transportbuses on Wednesday.
This comes after Mirror published a story on Wednesday, highlighting their plight. Following this, police requested Maharashtra State RoadTransport Corporation (MSRTC ) to arrange buses to take them back to Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
According to the information given by the police, four MSRTC buses were arranged to come to Vishrantwadi police station, in which all the migrants were able to be accommodated. All four buses are on their way to Madhya Pradesh as all of them are residents of the state. They were also provided with food by the police to sustain then through the journey.
Ashish Pal, one of the migrants, said, “The police had told us that we should go back to our rooms at night on Tuesday and come back to the police station at 10 am. When we came back, they had arranged a bus for us. They also arranged some food for us to last the bus journey. We want to thank the police for helping us get back to our villages.”
Another migrant, Abhilekh Vasare, said, “I came toPune ago and got stuck here because of the lockdown. When we came to the police station in the morning, a bus was already standing there, ready to take us to Madhya Pradesh. The police also checked our temperature before letting us board the bus.”
Senior police inspector of Vishrantwadi police station, Arun Awhad, said, “We asked MSRTC to provide four buses to transport these migrants. We have taken precautions like taking a medical examination of all of them, seating them in the bus following distancing norms. This bus will drop them off at the Madhya Pradesh border.”
Deputy commissioner of police (zone 4) Pankaj Deshmukh said, “We had asked MSRTC to provide 35 buses in all. Out of these, four were sent to Vishrantwadi and six to Chandan Nagar to ferry migrants. A large number of migrants were also at Kharadi and Wagholi so the remaining 25 buses were sent there and have left for Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh borders.”
MSRTC divisional controller Yamini Joshi said, “We have arranged 300 buses for Pune district. A large number of migrants are still stuck at Wagholi, Lonikand and other places. They are waiting to go their villages. By May 17, we will provide free bus service to them.”
