Keeping yourself fit during lockdown has been one of the biggest challenges for everyone. But with the world going digital, a lot of schools and sports academies of Kanpur have come up with online sports classes, similar to online academic sessions.
Stressing on the need for online sports sessions, Shubham Kumar, a sports teacher at the Chintels School, says, “It has been more than a month now since students have hit the ground for any kind of physical activity. So we started these online sessions for the students. We have a fixed sports activity time table for all the classes. This way they are involved in some physical activity too.” He adds, “During the online sports session students not only get involved in physical exercises but also learn different sporting techniques. At present, we have started cricket and basketball sessions and will soon be adding some more sports to our online classes.”

Another institution, which has been also been conducting online sports trainings sessions for their students is the GD Goenka Public School. Alka Singh, the head sports coach of the school, shares, “Sports being an important part of our school course, we are conducting online sports classes for students. We are associated with cricket and badminton academies and trained coaches host online sessions for the students. We share sports tutorials with the students and also organise two-way communication sports sessions.”
Even the sports academies in the city don’t want to wait for the students to get back on the ground and have begun online training. Ashish Chauhan, Secretary, Sir Padampat Singhania Sports Academy, says, “With online sports sessions we are focusing on shadow practicing, dry practicing and other muscle strengthening exercises. With such type of session, we believe that our students will stay fit even during the lockdown. Also, it saves our coaches from putting extra efforts on all the students once the academy opens after the lockdown.”

The District Archery Association is also conducting online archery training sessions for the students. Raja Bharat Awasthi, General Secretary of the Archery Association says, “To ensure an uninterrupted practice of our students we have been organising two to three archery sessions on a daily basis. Archery is a sport of concentration and that’s why our coaches share various concentration developing exercises with the students.”
Proper nutrition and a balanced diet is also important for the students and this is what Super International School is focussing on. Raja Talib, Online Sports Coordinator for the school, says, “Apart from organising online sports sessions for our students, our sports experts also share knowledge about proper diet and nutrition. They see to it that while training the students online, they also discuss their food habits in detail.”
