Summer vacations likely to be extended by 10 to 15 days in Chandigarh

Online classes will continue after May 14 in all the schools.
CHANDIGARH: With summer vacations for schools ending on May 14, students and teachers are eagerly waiting for further guidelines from the UT education department to know if schools reopen on May 18 or not.
According to the officials of the UT education department, there are chances that summer vacations will be extended by 10 to 15 more days. A proposal in this regard has been prepared and a decision on the same is expected on Thursday. The district education officer, Alka Mehta, confirmed the same.
Chances of reopening schools in May are bleak. Officials said they are waiting for directives from the ministry of home affairs (MHA) and ministry of human resource development (MHRD), before issuing any further orders for city schools.
Rubinderjit Singh Brar, director of the school education, confirmed that schools will not open post summer vacations and a suggestive plan for the same has been prepared and shared with the education secretary for approval.
“We will follow the guidelines of the MHA and MHRD. Also, we will go by the directions of the Chandigarh administration. Seeing the rise in the numbers of positive cases, it is unlikely that schools will open in May. A decision in this regard will be taken on Thursday. Online classes are likely to continue in a more organised manner,” he said.
