The Indian Railways on Thursday announced that it has cancelled all regular train tickets that have been already booked for travel till June 30. Full refunds will be issued to all passengers who had booked tickets for travel in these trains.
Only the tickets of the regular trains are being cancelled that were booked during the lockdown period when Railways was allowing bookings for journeys in June. These do not include the Shramik Special trains and special trains that started running from May 12. While the Shramik special trains are ferrying migrant labourers to their home states, the special trains are running on 15 routes to ferry people stranded across the country.
All regular mail, express, passenger and suburban train services have been suspended from March 25 in wake of the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus.
On May 12, 15 special trains were started in the nationwide lockdown aimed at gradually resuming the train services in India.
Meanwhile, Railways has also announced that the passengers who aren't allowed to travel on special trains because of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 will be issued a full refund.
The government has made it mandatory to screen all the passengers who are travelling and only the asymptomatic ones are allowed to board the trains.
