2748 penalised for not wearing face masks in North Goa

Panaji: Police in North Goa have penalized 2748 persons for not wearing face masks. In Panaji 324 cases, Old Goa 370, Agacaim 165, Mapusa 290, Anjuna 177, Pernem 144, Porvorim 368, Calangute 206, Saligao 145, Bicholim 302 and in Valpoi there were 257 such cases.  Over Rs 2.74 lakh were imposed as fines, police said. Police in North Goa have also booked 2028 persons for spitting in public places and imposed over Rs 2.02 lakh as fines.

SP North Goa Utkrisht Prasoon said that they have also undertaken a drive against drinking in public places in which a number of cases have been registered. He said those found drinking in public areas have been arrested. So far around 35 such incidents of drinking in public places have been reported in North Goa and police have arrested over 40 persons in connection with the cases informed Prasoon.

The police in North Goa have also registered 358 FIR’s for lockdown violations in which 539 persons were arrested and 206 vehicles were impounded. Similarly 22,832 cases were booked under the motor vehicle act wherein around Rs 24.93 lakh was imposed as fines.

A senior police officer said that they have been implementing the lockdown effectively and strict action is taken against violators.

In view of the third phase of the lockdown the police have appealed to the citizens not to undertake non essential travel between 7 pm to 7 am as any such movement is prohibited. Action will be initiated against those found moving unnecessarily during this period police said. Police have appealed to the public to wear mask and observe social distancing.
