JLR’s Protect Vector Concept for future mobility

You’ve read the headline and seen the picture and must be wondering how this vehicle has the same parents that give you cars like the Range Rover Sport, Defender, Discovery, XK-R, XJ and XE. That is precisely what got our intention and after having read up on the Project Vector, we can safely say that it might be extremely different, but it has the same level of innovation that you would expect from any JLR product.

What is the Project Vector?

The Jaguar Land Rover Project Vector concept is targeted as a solution for today’s urban mobility challenges. This concept vehicle platform has been designed to integrate with future smart city infrastructure, delivery services as well as address shared mobility needs. Jaguar Land Rover is looking at addressing autonomous travel as well as this concept is ‘autonomous ready’.

The Project Vector is part of JLR’s Destination Zero mission which is to help make societies safer, healthier and cleaner by offering a zero emission solution for the market. Taking that further, Jaguar Land Rover is also focused on achieving zero accidents and zero congestion through a range of products that will eventually result of this concept study.

In order to achieve all that, Jaguar Land Rover is collaborating with the brightest minds in academia, supply chain and digital services, to create connected and integrated mobility systems which incidentally are the fundamental building blocks for Destination Zero.

The car is a zero emission electric vehicle that is compact and designed for the city. All the drivetrain components and battery packs are integrated in the flat floor which allows this vehicle to be used for numerous tasks while offering an unmatched amount of cabin space. This makes it an ideal vehicle for shared mobility, as a school bus or even as a last-mile delivery vehicle.

Developed at the National Automotive Innovation Centre, the Project Vector will go into testing in late 2021.
