ULHASNAGAR: The city witnessed a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases with 12 more persons testing positive for the infection in the past 24 hours, taking the number of coronavirus cases to 81, including four deaths. The city, till April 22 had only one case.
In the past 22 days, the city has witnessed 80 Covid-19 cases, most of them from slum pockets causing serious concern for civic authorities.
On Thursday, 12 more people from the slums tested positive for Covid-19, including four each from Samrat Ashok Nagar and Adarsh Nagar and one from Subhash Tekdi slum.
The civic body has so far have declared 12 containment zone in the city which could be increased considering the rising number of the infection.
Ulhasnagar municipal commissioner Sudhakar Deshmukh has ordered to close all shops related to monsoon preparation works due to rising cases of Covid-19.
