School panel looks at shifts, odd-even model

Mysuru: Gearing up for the new normal in school education, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has formed a panel of experts to draw up a strategy for reopening of schools once the Covid-19 crisis abates. Among the measures being considered to accommodate social distancing are shifts for students or lessons on alternate days for different classes — something on the lines of an odd-even system.
SR Umashankar, principal secretary in DPI, said the committee would look into a range of issues surrounding academic continuity and the safety of children when they return to school.
“Experts and teachers will suggest how the entire academic year should look, which portions of the syllabus can be retained and what can be left out,” he said.
