LUCKNOW: Of the 60 policemen who have tested positive for Covid-19 across the state, 25 have shown signs of recovery and have tested negative in their second tests conducted over few days.
Most of the policemen were from Kanpur (24) and Firozabad (16). The other districts where cops were found to be positive were Varanasi (11), Agra (7) and one each from Bijnor and Moradabad.
In Kanpur, IG range Mohit Agarwal said that steps were taken to ensure that cops who tested positive were not demoralised and all possible help to their families was extended. Regular counselling sessions are being organised along with providing them with immunity boosting supplements from Ayurveda.
Similar measures have been taken by Varanasi police where 11 cops had tested positive but eight have recovered.
“Our focus was to provide proper diet and medicines to those infected,” said Prabhakar Chaudhary, SSP Varanasi. In Firozabad, four of the 16 infected cops and in Agra, one of the seven have recovered. Cops in Bijnor and Moradabad are also fit.
UP police’s corona cell has received 154 calls of help from the families of police personnel infected with Covid-19 and other cops on duty. “The cell is helping families of cops on duty by making arrangements for them to get medical help,” said Abhay Nath Tripathi, PRO to DGP.
