Melissa Etheridge's son, Beckett Cypher, has died.

The country singer shared 21-year-old Beckett with former partner, filmmaker, Julie Cypher. The couple, who split in 2000 after a 12-year relationship, also share daughter Bailey Jean. Both their children were conceived using artificial insemination with a sperm donation from fellow musician, David Crosby, reports CNN.

Melissa also has twins, Miller and Johnnie, with ex Tammy Lynn Michaels.

Melissa shared on Twitter on Wednesday that Beckett's death was related to his opioid addiction.

"Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction," she wrote.

"My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends.

"My heart is broken."
