New Delhi: Domestic
telecom equipment makers said discouraging global companies for tenders worth below ₹200 crore would benefit local companies in bidding by multiple public sector companies under the railways ministry as well as departments of telecommunications and power.
“The move will definitely help Indian companies to bid in many projects which are below ₹200 crore,” said RK Bhatnagar, former director general of Delhi-based Telecom Equipment Promotion Council.
He said the demand to procure telecom equipment and hardware ranging from electronic PBX systems, fibre-optic cable, and Wi-Fi routers and modems from government agencies and departments, often amounts to less than ₹200 crore.
Sandeep Aggarwal, chairman of the telecom committee of the PHD Chambers of Commerce & Industry, said while the government’s decision might help local electronic equipment companies, tenders worth ₹200 crore and below in the
Indian Railways and
Department of Telecommunications are very few.
