NET exam dates to be declared within two days: Ramesh Pokhriyal

The revised and final exam dates of University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) will be declared within two days, assured Union Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal in a live interaction with teachers across the country on Thursday.

UGC-NET conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) is for a junior research fellowship and eligibility for assistant professor.

While most of the entrance exams have been postponed due to the lockdown because of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spread, UGC NET aspirants were in dilemma whether their exam scheduled for June 15-20, is likely to get delayed or not. Last week, the ministry had announced the dates of the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) dates which is also conducted by NTA. However, there was no clarity on the dates of UGC-NET.

Answering to a query from a teacher, Pokhriyal said, “I understand many NET aspirants are curious about the exam dates. We will deliberate a meeting with the UGC in a day or two and a final call on the dates of the exam will be declared.”

The will be held through computer-based test (CBT) mode and it comprises of two papers- Paper I for 100 marks and Paper II for 200 marks. The exam will be held in two shifts. The duration of the examination is three hours.

The questions in Paper I are basically to evaluate and assess the teaching, research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Paper-II will be based on the subject selected by the candidate and will assess domain knowledge. There is no negative marking to any questions.

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted for determining the eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor Both, in universities and colleges.
