Mumbai has more than 12,000 cases and nearly 500 new ones are being reported daily.
As there is a shortage of beds in hospitals, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is building the hospital at BKC. MMRDA commissioner R A Rajiv said, "Non-critical patients will be treated. As per requirement, 5,000 beds can be arranged by expanding it." Oxygen facilities will be provided at 504 beds and toilets will be available for patients. A laboratory is also being prepared and X-Ray and ECG facilities will be available.
Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had requested MMRDA to assist in a modular quarantine and isolation facility to ramp up beds. Jupiter hospital (Thane) will provide medical facilities as part of CSR activity. BMC is completing a 40-bed ICU facility at NSCI (Worli) where it has a 650-bed isolation facility. It has nearly completed a 300-bed isolation facility at the racecourse.
