Representative imageSURAT: About 57 Covid-19 patients were discharged in Surat city on Thursday which helped Surat city to improve its recovery rate to 62 percent.
According to Surat Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, tili now total of 597 patients have been discharged so far in Surat city which makes the recovery rate to 62 percent in the city.
"Recovery rate is improving as more and more Covid-19 patients are getting recovered from the virus,'' Pani said.
Meanwhile, 14 new Covid-19 cases reported from the city taking the total number of Covid-19 positive cases to 963.
Two persons succumbed to the virus in Surat city on Thursday taking the death toll due to the virus at 44. A 78-year-old Samiya Haider, a resident of Central zone and 75-year-old Soma Gavane, a resident of Maan Darwaja area in the city. SMC officials said that both the patients were suffering from co-morbid conditions.
Municipal Commissioner urged citizens not to send their elder members of the family to purchase essential items such as milk, medicine, grocery and other items and instead younger members of the family should go for it.
"We have observed that many elders were coming out to purchase essentials items in the city and it is not advisable as they are more susceptible to the virus infections. Moreover, 59 people who were engaged in selling milk, vegetables, dairy items were found to be infected with coronavirus. So, I request that young members of the family should go out to purchase essentials and elders should be taken care of at home,'' Pani said.
The total number of Covid-19 positive patients including Surat district (58) reached 1021 cases.
