A soldier went missing and another sustained serious injury on Thursday after an avalanche hit an Army post in the mountainous region of north Sikkim, the Indian Army said. 

While the injured soldier is undergoing medical treatment, a search operation has been launched to locate the missing jawan. 

"A snow clearance party came under sudden snow slide in North Sikkim. All soldiers have been evacuated safely but for one soldier who is still missing," a senior Army official said.

"All rescued soldiers are safe; one of them is seriously injured and undergoing medical treatment. Intense search is underway to locate the missing soldier," the official added.
