A large crowd of migrant workers from Uttarakhand gathered at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad on Thursday to go back to their native places amidst the lockdown.
Sources close to Zee News report that more than 1000 people gathered to be taken to the railway station in Ahmedabad.
The passengers will be transported by bus from GMDC grounds to the railway station. However, only those people given permission by the state are allowed to travel.
It seems that people who have not been allowed to return home have also gathered in large numbers at the GMDC grounds. Efforts are being made by the police to segregate those who have not been allowed by the state to travel.
On May 1, the Centre issued guidelines allowing special trains for the movement of migrant workers, tourists, students, and other persons stranded at different places.
The Ministry of Railways has issued detailed guidelines for social distancing and other safety measures to be observed at train stations, train platforms and within the trains.
The MHA has also allowed buses for the transport of such groups of stranded people and these vehicles will be sanitised and will have to follow safe social distancing norms in seating.
These special trains run from point to point on the request of both the concerned state governments as per the standard protocols for sending and receiving such stranded persons. The Railways and state governments have appoint senior officials as nodal officers for coordination and smooth operation of these “Shramik Specials”.
