One booked in Hyderabad for online harassment

HYDERABAD: The city cyber crime police on Wednesday booked a case after a person reached them on social media stating nearly 40 girls in Hyderabad have been receiving threatening messages on social media asking them to share nudes.
“Dear Sir @CPHydCity This is #Important more than 40 girls in Hyderabad have been receiving threatening Messages over social media warning them to share Nudes or suffer acid attack. I’m worried about the victims please look into it with priority (sic),” Syed Abdahu Kashaf (@syedKashaf95) tweeted.

Following the incident, Hyderabad police registered a case under outraging the modesty of a woman and relevant sections of the IT Act.
Speaking to TOI, Shikha Goel, additional commissioner of police, crime and She Team head said, they have so far identified six victims. “We are checking whether there are any minor girl victims, and accordingly, we will add Pocso Act. So far, we have found that the person was using various fake accounts on Instagram and randomly targeting women and threatening them.”
She said the person was traced to Old City. “The investigation is at an initial stage, however, the cyber crime team have identified the accused. We are trying to identify whether all the victims are from Hyderabad or there are victims from other states too,” she said.
