Perth has recorded one new case of COVID-19 overnight, Health Minster Roger Cook has announced.

Addressing media on Thursday, Mr Cook said the case was diagnosed in a woman in her 30s from the Perth metropolitan area who had been in close contact with a previously confirmed case.

This brings the total number of cases in WA to 554, but 97 per cent have recovered.

Seven active cases remain, all in Perth but one in a regional area.

One of the Perth patients is in intensive care.

"I know many of us are looking forward to [restrictions lifting] on Monday but can I remind everyone that they must continue to practice social distancing, personal hygiene and observe the measures in place," Mr Cook said.

"We will continue to see cases bubble up from time to time ... this is our new normal.

"We can’t allow any setbacks to grow quickly ... social distancing is more important than ever."

He urged all West Australians to download the COVIDSafe app.

At the same conference, Education Minister Sue Ellergy confirmed that all students, bar those with health issues or family vulnerabilities to COVID-19, will be expected to return to school for week 4 of Term 2 unless they have obtained a special exemption.
