BHOPAL: Former chief minister
Kamal Nath on Tuesday held the 15-years of
BJP rule responsible for the massive exodus of labour from the state. In a series of tweets, the senior Congress leader said the numbers of migrant labour returning are shocking and means lack of employment opportunities over the past years.
“The numbers being revealed of migrant labour returning to the state during
Corona lockdown is shocking,” Kamal Nath tweeted. “These persons migrated in search of employment. Till now, it is being claimed that 11.78 lakh workers have returned and two lakh more are coming back,” he said.
In another tweet, the veteran Congress leader said, “The anti-labour policies of the 15-years of Shivraj (Singh Chouhan) government is responsible for the massive exodus of workers from the state. These workers were not givenlivelihood here, the reason why they migrated with their families in search of employment.”
He further argued, “Even today, when these workers are returning to their state with their families, they are facing a lot of problems.”
The former Union minister also attacked the state government for lack of arrangements for returning labour. “Hungry, thirsty, barefoot, walking, cycling in the scorching heat, with blisters on their feet, they are travelling for thousands of kilometres. For their return, the Shivraj government made no arrangements which is why they are facing a lot of difficulties,” @OfficeOfKNath tweeted.
Kamal Nath said that the Chouhan government is guilty for the accidental deaths of returning migrant labour. “They (workers) are victims of accident, even untimely deaths – for this too the Shivraj government is guilty. I demand that the state government should provide immediate relief package for these lakhs of workers who have returned to the state in the absence of livelihood during the Corona lockdown period,” the former chief minister tweeted.
He added that the families of migrant workers be provided free ration. “To prevent their migration in the fulture, their livelihood and rehabilitation should be ensured so their labour can be utilised for the benefit and development of the state,” he tweeted.
