SALEM: A man was arrested on Tuesday for attempting to rape a minor girl in Salem district of Tamil Nadu.
The accused has been identified as P Tirumalai, 32, of Earvadi near Mallur. He is a coolie.
The incident happened around 8pm on Monday when the girl was alone at home. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her, said a senior police official at the Kondalampatty all-woman police station.
The police registered a case against the man based on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents. He was booked under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012.
The girl was admitted to Salem Government Super Specialty Hospital.
