Surviving the rainy seasonand covid19

THE EDITOR: Can we expect the rivers and box drains to be clear of garbage this rainy season? With everyone indoors it was heartening to see how clean the Caroni River became.

Can we expect that those citizens confined at home because of covid19 took the time to ensure that furniture and appliances were moved so they would not be damaged by water? Were empty alcohol bottles disposed of carefully after stay-at-home parties?

Let us all be mindful that the Government will not likely have extra money for replacing mattresses and appliances damaged in floods. Citizens will instead have to be reasonable and hold some strain.

Staying well, staying alive will remain on top of the agenda as covid19 is still very much alive. The rains will not wash away this virus. No vaccine being tried will be ready for distribution under one year.

The new normal this hurricane season might be for citizens battening down the hatches and being realistic about self-sufficiency.
