'Virtual reality in education to make online classes more interesting'

BHUBANESWAR: Sanjib Kumar Rout, president of the newly-established CV Raman Global University (CGU), on Monday said that virtual reality (VR) in education will make online classes more interesting. These VR classes make students feel that they are in real classes, he added.
Rout said importance of online classes have taken a big role in view of the Covid-19 pandemic situation. The lockdown and social distancing norms have compelled the government and educational institutions to think about an interesting platform for providing online education. "What we are providing today as online education is like a stopgap arrangement. But tomorrow the online education in our country is virtual reality," he added.
He said an absolute classroom with real environment of teaching and learning can be created through VR technology. "The classes in VR and online will be more realistic where you can have all the texts, videos, questionnaire and feedbacks. Teaching module can be recorded as a result students can see it later. So learning experience will be more interesting in future than what we see now," he added.
He said pre-Corona scenario of education was more protective type with conservative perception but the post-Corona education will find new concept of education. Online education is going to be the new normal after the lockdown. "Several students are facing network issues now during online classes, but this problem will be solved after government takes policy decision to bring good network or 5G," he added.
Rout's university, which has come to limelight for winning first gold for India in world skills competition, recently announced that it will start a scholarship amount of Rs 5 crore for the children of the Corona Fighters like doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, police, sanitation workers, media persons and many employees and staff of other emergency service departments.
"The lockdown and Covid-19 situation has brought financial crisis for many people. We should show compassion to these people. We are trying to help their kids to get bank loan, scholarship or fellowship to continue their education. We are ready to help them with the assistance of NGOs and philanthropic organisations. We have state of the art laboratories and we are planning to come up with a design which will make our education in our university more realistic," he added.
