MANGALURU: Covid-19 meter ticked over in Dakshina Kannada after a gap of little over 48 hours with the district recording two more positive cases on Tuesday. The day’s positive cases are a 26-year-old male designated P-877 in state bulletin and P-878, 50-year-old woman, his mother.
Though they are from Karkala taluk in Udupi district, the woman was undergoing treatment at First Neuro Hospital in the city, already a supervised isolation centre.
P-878 had shared the same room in First Neuro Hospital in which P-507, an octogenarian was being treated for neurological issues. Dr Ramachandra Bairy, district health and family welfare officer said, “P-878 had shared the room with P-507 for a week from April 21 and her swab reports came positive on Tuesday. She has been shifted from First Neuro Hospital to district Wenlock Hospital, designated Covid hospital as per protocol,” he said.
Her son (P-877) came in contact with not only P-507, but also P-432, who too was in the same room. Incidentally, P-432, was the district’s second of the three Covid19 victim and was in the hospital as an attendant to his mother who had neurological issues, Dr Bairy said. “If not for the 12
th
day positive report, the woman and her son would have been discharged from the hospital and sent to home quarantine in Udupi district,” Dr Bairy surmised.
With this, the total active cases in DK has gone up to 16 and 27 people hailing from the district have now been affected by Covid19. In all, 8 people from DK and six people from outside the district including four from Kasaragod, one each from Udupi and Bhatkal have been treated and discharged so far, Dr Bairy said. As on May 12, 4,339 out of 4,306 samples from the district tested have proved to be negative, as per the district health bulletin.
