The Maharashtra government has allowed home delivery of alcohol, the scheme would be applicable to only those who have permits to consume alcohol.

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday issued guidelines to allow home delivery of alcohol, according to the guidelines issued Wine shops can home deliver alcohol to those who have alcohol permits. The state has however put forth certain conditions first, the Wine shop needs to designate a person for delivery of alcohol to people’s homes, this employee would have a health check up to ensure he is not a carrier of Covid 19. Once his test is cleared, the excise department would give him an identity card. Excise department officials have said that only those carrying these identity cards would be allowed to make home delivery.

How many wine shops make use of this, needs to be seen. This however would not be applicable for those living in Mumbai and Pune Mumbai Metropolitan region, Aurangabad and Nagpur as the Excise department has clarified that this order will be applicable for only those districts where the local civic body has allowed wine shops to remain open. In other words unless the Mumbai , Thane, Kalyan Dombivli, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad Civic body allows wine shops to open this service would not be available for the people there. The government has said that it is looking in to the issue of providing online alcohol permits as it acknowledges that very few people might have permits to consumer liquor.
