Curchorem: In order to thwart the entry of domestic tourists to the tourist spots in Sanguem and Quepem talukas, the deputy collector and SDM of Sanguem Ajay Gaude has issued an order to the police inspectors of Sanguem and Quepem police stations to depute police personnel at Curpem and Colomb junctions from 9 am to 11 am and from 3 pm to 6 pm everyday and to put up barricades.
As per the order, some groups of people gather at Curdi and Madel areas though gathering is prohibited under Section 144 which is in force as there is a prevailing situation in the country due to the health emergency posed by COVID-19.
Inquiries revealed that people in groups visit the Curdi area which remains submerged for the entire year except in peak summer month of May when water receded.
On receiving information, the deputy collector Ajay Gaude visited the site and imposed fines on tourists and evicted them by issuing
warnings.
On Monday, the deputy collector held a meeting in his office at Sanguem which was attended by PIs of Sanguem and Quepem and officials of WRD and Forest Department. WRD officials were directed to depute guards at the entry point at Colomb and Curpem junction so as not to allow any tourist to visit the Curdi-Madel areas.
