The SUV in Ambala police's custodyAMBALA: A migrant labourer from Bihar, who was walking on Ambala-Jagadhri highway along with two others, was rammed by a Toyota Innova car near Chhota Khuda village under limits of Mahesh Nagar police station (PS) in the Ambala district on Tuesday morning.
Ambala police told that the deceased has been identified as Ashok Kumar (in his 40s) of Bitha Tola in Bhawanipur police station area of Purnia district in Bihar, while the person who got injured is Pinku (in his 30s), son Chattri Mandal of Bitha Tola.
Investigation officer (IO), head constable (HC) Gurdev Singh told, “Ashok had died on the spot, while Pinku was rushed to the civil hospital, Ambala Cantt, from where doctors referred him to PGIMER in Sector 12, Chandigarh. Pinku’s condition is reportedly stable.”
“Three labourers including Ashok Kumar, Pinku, and Vinod Mandal lived in Ambala Cantt area, and they were on their way to find work along the roadside near Chhota Khuda village in Mahesh Nagar police station area. Suddenly, two of them were rammed from behind by a Toyota Innova car bearing number HR70B8675. The driver fled the spot after leaving the injured persons behind on the road," added HC Gurdev.
“The accidental car has been taken into custody from some kilometers away from the accident spot, while the driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind”, further added HC Gurdev.
While talking to media Vinod Mandal said, “As we got no food here, we decided to leave for our state and we were heading back to Purnia district in Bihar. We got not work here and were searching for it. When we were walking a car rammed Ashok and Pinku from behind.”
Meanwhile, on the complaint of Vinod Mandal, a case against unknown driver of Innova has been registered under Section 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Mahesh Nagar PS in Ambala on Tuesday.
However, Ambala Cantonment deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ram Kumar said, “These labourers had been living in Naggal-Kardhan area of Ambala Cantt and they were out in search of work. An SUV rammed two labourers near Chhota Khuda village in Mahesh Nagar area. We have registered a case against accused vehicle driver and further investigation is being done.”
