Chimbel villagers adhering to norms to keep COVID at bay

Chimbel: The residents of Chimbel area that has seen a case of COVID-19 are adapting to the changing times and are taking all preventive measures to keep the virus at bay. Everyone including the villagers, shopkeepers and visitors cutting across all ages, caste and creed can be seen covering up their face while social distancing is maintained at all public places like the bus stand and in the market.

The village panchayat has also done its bit by spreading awareness amongst the villagers since the initial stage to combat and curb the spread of the coronavirus, revealed a source in the panchayat office.

While Indira Nagar residents seem to be more health conscious than other areas in the village, another source pointed out that migrants who are engaged in the construction works on the site are facing difficulties as they are not in the habit of using the face masks.

Speaking to this daily, a source informed that till date there is not a single positive case of COVID-19 reported from the area except the one that was reported in beginning but it was from the other side of the national highway and the patient was quarantined and had recovered.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the panchayat has taken all steps to safeguard the interests of the villagers by sanitising all the public places in its jurisdiction and has urged the general public to refrain from visiting the office of village panchayat as a preventive measure to combat COVID-19 adding one can visit the office only in case of urgent matters.

In the panchayat office too, provision of hand sanitiser has been made for members of public who visit it, he claimed.

“If any person has travel history outside the state, he may self quarantine himself and not step out of the house. No one should move out without any purpose and members of public have been asked to cooperate with the panchayat in combating the COVID-19,’’ the source added.

Besides, the village panchayat also has pasted a notice sensitising about symptoms of COVID-19 which includes fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, aches and pain, headaches, running nose or stuffy nose, diarrhea, sneezing etc.

The panchayat has made it compulsory to use face masks for all shopkeepers, passengers, visitors to the panchayat and sanitise the visitors with sanitisers once they gain entry into the panchayat office. In view of the fast-approaching monsoon, the village panchayat has cleaned all the gutters in all the wards of the village, the sources informed.
