According to a report by 1 NEWS, the 2015 Rugby World Cup winner will instead turn out for the Highlanders in the competition which will be contested by the five New Zealand franchises, kicking off on Saturday, 13 June.

The Highlanders are due to host the Chiefs on the opening day of the mini-Super Rugby tournament at 07:05 SA time.

The Highlanders were struggling in this year's Super Rugby tournament when play was halted, having won a single match from their six played, and were rooted to the bottom of the New Zealand Conference and 11th in the Overall standings.

Milner-Skudder, 29, signed for Toulon last year, but didn't make an appearance for the French club as the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the Top 14.

Milner-Skudder, who has battled shoulder injuries in recent years, played 35 matches for the Hurricanes between 2015-2019. He has scored 12 tries in 13 Tests for the All Blacks.
