PM Modi said the definition of self-reliance has undergone a change in the globalised world and when India talks about it, it is different from being self-centred. He said India’s culture considers the world as one family, and progress in India is part of, and also contributes to, progress in the whole world. Modi said the world trusts that India has a lot to contribute towards the development of the entire humanity.

Modi also described it as an unimaginable crisis. The PM says that self-reliance is the only way forward, but also does not mean a self-centrist approach. "We have to be stronger. We have to save ourselves and keep moving forward at the same time," he says, adding, "We have been hearing that 21st century will belong to India, but this is not just a dream but our responsibility too. But how to achieve it. The current world situation shows, there is only one way: self-reliant India".
“When the crisis began, not a single PPE was being manufactured in India. N-95 masks were being manufactured in negligible quantity. Today, the situation is such that India is manufacturing 2 lakh PPE kits and N95 masks each per day. We are able to do so because India has turned a crisis into an opportunity. India’s vision to convert this crisis into an opportunity is going to prove influential as we become more self-reliant,” the PM said.

The number of patients who recovered from the virus also saw its highest daily jump. The number of active cases in the country rose to 44,029 while the number of deaths in the country due to the infection reached 2,206.
In the meeting with chief ministers, PM Modi said the road ahead should be focused on reducing the spread of Covid-19 and ensuring that all precautions were taken by people, including social distancing norms, by observing 'do gaz doori'.
During the videoconference, PM Modi told chief ministers that India would have to devise and implement a “balanced strategy” to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, and the biggest challenge for the country will be to ensure that the infection does not spread to villages.
The nationwide lockdown has been in force since March 25 to contain the spread of the virus, which has killed more than 2,200 people, and afflicted more than 70,000 in the country.
