Yamuna expressway again: One killed as car rams truck

Police suspect the driver dozed off and failed to notice the truck
GREATER NOIDA: One person was killed and two others were severely injured after the car in which they were travelling in rammed a stationary truck on Yamuna Expressway on Monday.
The accident took place near Ronija village in Rabupura. The car was moving towards Delhi from Agra side. Police said that it was a commercial vehicle — a taxi. They suspect that the driver dozed off behind the wheel and failed to notice the truck that was parked on one side of the expressway.
Vineet Kumar, SHO at Rabupura, said the truck was ferrying wheat from Agra to Ghaziabad and was parked on the left side after breaking down. The truck driver informed police about the accident at 6am, after which a police team rushed to the spot.
“The car’s left side was completely damaged. Three men were rushed to Kailash Hospital where the person who was sitting at the front was declared dead. Meanwhile, the driver Shafeeq and one Rupesh, both residents of Narela in Delhi, were taken to ICU,” the SHO said.
Kumar added that the injured were not in a condition to reveal their travel details. However, it seemed that they were coming from Lucknow and the driver presumably fell asleep. “Those who survived had bruises and lacerations all over their bodies. They were referred to a private hospital on Monday afternoon,” he said.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, DCP (Zone 3) said an autopsy was conducted. They are also questioning the family members of the injured for the details of their travel and whether they had the required permissions. “No FIR has been filed. However, a detailed investigation in the matter is underway,” he said.
