Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
* IANS update at 2.00pm: The Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has decided to open 291 dhabas (eateries) and workshops for truck and bus drivers on the state highways.
* PTI update at 12.15pm: The Uttar Pradesh government has sent 1,200 students, who were stranded in Kanpur due to a coronavirus lockdown, to their homes across the state in 40 buses after a proper medical check-up, officials said on Tuesday.
* ANI update at 11.15am: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday transferred Rs 225.39 crore to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) beneficiaries through direct bank transfer.
* ANI update at 10.15am: Out of the 1,019 samples tested on Monday for coronavirus, 10 have been found Covid-19 positive, King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow said on Tuesday.
* Update at 9.00am: Spike of 3604 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours; total positive cases in the country is now at 70756, including 46008 active cases, 22454 cured/discharged/migrated cases and 2293 deaths
* More than four lakh persons have arrived in UP through bus, train or other means in the past five days. Out of them, 1 lakh arrived on Monday itself.
* As the state struggles to contain Covid-19 cases in Agra, Kanpur and Meerut, the UP government has started a major surgical operation to set things right. Medical colleges in all the three cities are set to get more government support, including a corrective surgery.
* Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Farangi Mahal issued a fatwa on Monday stating that Muslims should offer Eid namaz and Alvida Namaz (last Friday of Ramzan) in their homes if Lockdown 3.0 is extended beyond May 17 and mosques remain closed for devout.
* In what could be termed as a sweet news for the common man in times of coronavirus pandemic, the price of sugar has fallen by around 11% following a dramatic fall in demand, according to the figures compiled by the UP Sugar Mills Association (UPSMA).
* A day after five persons were diagnosed with Covid-19 at Nazarbagh vegetable market in Kaiserbagh, health department on Monday launched a massive containment and testing drive in the locality, which is threatening to become the second big hotspot in the city after Sadar.
