(Representative image)CHENNAI: Three senior police officers in Chennai, including an additional commissioner of police, tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
The additional commissioner of police had attended a CMDA meeting at Koyambedu market recently. Koyambedu market is a Coivd-19 cluster.
An officer in the rank of deputy commissioner of police and an assistant commissioner of police also tested positive for Covid-19. All of them have been admitted to hospital.
After the three officers tested positive, their offices were temporarily sealed and disinfected.
Samples were taken from around 60 people, including these officer’s personal security staff, camp staff and family members. The results would come in a day or two. They have been asked to stay in home quarantine.
City police commissioner A K Viswanathan has ordered all his subordinates to maintain social distancing. He also restricted them from meeting visitors to their offices. Instead, they have been asked to speak to people over the phone.
Earlier, around 75 police personnel, including a DCP and two ACPs, had tested positive for coronavirus infection. They were admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and a few other hospitals in Chennai. On Tuesday, 35 of them were shifted to an isolation ward on IIT-Madras campus.
At least 20 police personnel, including a DCP, have recovered so far.
