MOSCOW: A new surge in virus cases took Russia’s tally past Italy’s, making it the fourth highest in the world. The number of new cases rose by a record daily amount to 11,656 in the previous 24 hours, making the official tally 221,344.
Only Britain, Spain and the United States have recorded more cases. With 94 deaths, the toll rose to 2,009. However, President Putin on Monday announced a gradual easing of lockdown measures despite surge in cases.
