8 migrants labourers of Assam found walking back home from Tripura

AGARTALA: As many as eight migrated labourer from Assam who lost their job due to long lockdown and, not finding any way to survive, returning home on foot when they were located by a police team at Ranirbazar, 20 km east of Agartala on Sunday.
Police said locating eight people taking rest under a tree the police team, on suspicion, asked from where they have come from and where they are going. Learning their story the police immediately took them to the nearby Jirania Inter-State Bus Terminal and arranged food for them and tested their health.
The Sub-divisional Magistrate Jirania rushed to the spot and gave Rs 500 to each of them for their immediate expenses and arranged their stay. They were assured of arrangements for their return home at Bongaigaon in Assam. The persons were identified as Prem Chetry, Krishna Sutradhar, Dipak Chetry, Gautam Sutradhar, Ayodhya Sutradhar, Biswajit Marak, Jank Sutradhar, and Jadav Sutradhar were engaged by a contractor for installation of Airtel mobile tower at Maharani area in Udaipur under Gomati district.
They were working for the last four months until the lockdown announced on March 24. The contractor after deducting their meal charges paid Rs 3,400 to each of them and since then was not contacting them. After paying rent for their stay the labourers were finding it difficult to survive and decided to walk back home at Bongaigaon and covered more than 70 kilometres in one and a half days.
