Amorous newlyweds are interrupted by a would-be home invader and forced to chase him down the street in the NUDE - before crook makes bizarre request when they catch him

  • Managed to get keys back as shocked neighbours watched commotion unfold
  • Sunshine Coast couple have reported the incident to Queensland Police

A newlywed couple have recalled how a romantic afternoon in the bedroom was rudely interrupted by a would-be thief before they chased him down the driveway naked.

Jim Rice and Sandra Scott were enjoying some intimate time together at their Coolum home on Queensland's Sunshine Coast on Saturday afternoon when they heard a noise in the kitchen.

Thinking it was their dogs, Ms Scott went to investigate and was shocked to see 'a rather big bloke' running down the side of the house who had taken off with her car keys.

She raced back to the bedroom to alert her husband before the naked pair raced out to the driveway to stop the thief from making a quick getaway in their car, as shocked neighbours watched the commotion unfold.

'I opened the door and discovered a rather big bloke was in the driver's seat,' Mr Rice told Yahoo News Australia.

'We just started screaming at him as loudly as we could non-stop to get out. He told us to ''shhh'' and we stopped and thought ''huh? What are we doing?'' And resumed screaming.'

The would-be thief had the audacity to ask the couple for a lift, which was declined.

Ms Scott insists she and her husband of seven months hadn't intended to run out of the house with no clothes on.

'The adrenaline was pumping, we were trying to run around the house to find clothes but it all happened so quickly and we thought, if we don't go now, we're going to lose the car,' Ms Scott told ABC Sunshine Coast

The couple managed to get the would-be thief out of their car, who insisted he hadn't stolen anything else.

'I think the only reason he got out of the car was that two naked people were screaming at him,' Ms Scott said.

'He threw the keys at us and said ''f*** you'', like it was our fault that we'd stopped what was about to happen.'

'He took off and by that stage, all the neighbours had come out to see what was going on.'

The incident was reported to Queensland Police.

The newlyweds now see the funny side of their ordeal.

The newlyweds have gotten to know their neighbours better following a memorable introduction on Saturday afternoon.

'The neighbours were a bit surprised but so were we,' Ms Scott said.

'It wasn't what we were expecting.'

The couple have vowed to keep their back door locked in future.
