Rajasthan: Swarms of insects storm into city areas of Pushkar and Ajmer

Locust swarms hovering over Ajmer city on Sunday
AJMER: Locust attacks were witnessed in Pushkar and Ajmer on Sunday. This has left the farmers worried as they have sown crops in the fields. They used everything from smoke to clanging utensils to drive away the locusts, but nothing helped.
On Sunday, the farmers in Baseli, Dev Nagar, Kadel, Badi Ghati, Piah and surrounding villages spotted swarms of locusts. Agricultural sources said that the locusts entered the India side from Pakistan through Jaisalmer and Bikaner region.
The agriculture department was informed but nothing was done till Sunday evening. Sources said that Pushkar administration came forward and reported the matter to higher authorities.
After the duststorm on Sunday, swarms of locusts invaded Ajmer and hovered over the sky. People went crazy clicking photos. Some swarms reached Dragah premises while others lingered over many gardens in city.
They were carried away by speedy winds later on.
An official source said that the control room at Bikaner was monitoring the locusts.
