BHUBANESWAR: To expedite the evaluation process of matric answer sheets, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha has decided to engage another 6000 additional teachers in the work. The evaluation process will resume from May 20 after the lockdown is over in 60 centres across Odisha.

Earlier BSE had engaged 17,000 examiners for the evaluation. The evaluators have been asked to report at their respective centres by May 19. The evaluation will be held following all guidelines of the Covid-19 outbreak like maintaining social distancing, wearing face masks, frequently washing hands, informed the president of BSE, Ramashis Hazra.

“To conduct the evaluation in accordance with the social distancing norms, the evaluation will be held in three phases. The evaluation of each subject will be held in three phases and three sittings and the teachers assigned to evaluate the respective subject at the specific time allotted to them,” he added.

Due to lockdown some teachers might have left the headquarters and gone to their hometowns or villages. For this, there will be a shortfall of examiners at some centres. Keeping this in view the board has taken steps to engage teachers at evaluation centres where they are currently residing, the BSE guideline said.

Stating that the evaluation work is scheduled for completion in 20 days, the BSE officials informed that the duration may be extended to 2-4 days.

Maintaining that there is no evaluation centre in the containment zones, Hazra said that unlike the CBSE, the BSE has no provision to allow the teachers to evaluate the papers at their home.

The evaluation of class X board exams started on March 17 but due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the assessment work got disrupted after a day from March 18 after teachers expressed fear and apprehension about the spread of the virus as they are evaluation the answer sheets sitting in a group and one answer sheet moves from one hand to another. As many as 18,000 teachers were engaged in the evaluation matriculation answer sheets. A total of 5, 60, 891 students appeared the exam this year.
