A man who was hospitalised after fracturing his hip caught Covid-19 and died.
Barry Taylor, 85, of Highfield Park in Rhyl died at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd on Friday May 1, shortly after 1am.
Opening an inquest at Ruthin County Hall today, coroner for North Wales east and central, John Gittins, said Mr Taylor, born in Lancashire, had initially been admitted to hospital on April 8.
He underwent an operation to repair a fractured hip resulting from a fall.
However, Mr Gittins said it was his subsequent admission to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, on May 1, when doctors discovered the former civil engineer had coronavirus.
The inquest heard he had developed a "productive cough".
A provisional cause of death was given as Covid-19, due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
However, Mr Gittins said the fracture and operation had contributed that.
As a result, he said the matter will proceed to a full inquest, and adjourned the hearing to a date to be fixed.
