With 22,171 Covid-19 cases the pandemic is wreaking havoc in Maharashtra. Mumbai continues to be the worst affected region with nearly 13,564 cases of Civid19. As per state home department, till date s many as 91 police officers and 716 police personnel were tested positive with Covid-19 while seven police personnel including 4 from Mumbai police succumb to the virus. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government decided to bear the travel expenses of those migrant labourers who lacked resources but wanted to return to their home states amidst the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

A Government Resolution (GR) stated that the migrant labourers will have to register themselves with local police and district collectors and complete the necessary health check up. The GR said that once they are eligible as per the new norms for the travel, district collectors concerned will transfer the required amount to the Indian Railways, while the necessary amount will be transferred from the CM’s Relief Fund. AIR Mumbai correspondent reports that Transport Minister and President of Maharashtra State Transport Corporation Anil Parab has informed that ST Corporation has safely transported around 5,000 laborers along with their families to the state border in buses from its various depots.

About 250 ST buses tookworkers from various regions like Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Ahmednagar, Nagpur, along with their families. At the same time, about 3000 laborers from our state who were stranded at the border on their way back were safely brought to their desired districts in Maharashtra. Following the rules of social distancing drinking water and food were provided to these labours and their families durig the journey. The ST corporation has decided to continue the campaign to bring the hardworking workers to the border and bring the stranded workers back home safely until the lock-down ends.
