TO THE EDITOR:
Regarding the letter "Put plant worker protections first" (April 20): While UAW members have been receiving pay during shelter-in-place orders, many of us FCA dealers have been on the front lines selling the vehicles they used to make, servicing them and keeping them running for those customers who go to work to make the food we eat, deliver the stuff we order on Amazon, work at the power plants so our homes have electricity, and myriad other services.
We operated our stores without access to COVID-19 testing; we made our own antiseptic hand gels; we practiced the 6-foot rule; and, by God, we helped to keep this country running. The comments on the stockpiles of Jeep Cherokees that aren't selling well fall on deaf ears for my employees who make half the money UAW members do.
It is time to buck up and get to work, or the company you work for may not be there when you feel it is "safe" to go back.
